Industrial Sector
Did you know?
The industrial sector accounts for approximately 30 percent of Ontario’s total electricity demand.
Overview
In Canada, the industrial sector accounts for one-third of all electricity consumed. Here, electricity is consumed by a diverse group of industries and in a wide range of activities, such as manufacturing systems and equipment with motors and pumps, compressed air systems, steam systems and process heating and cooling systems – these are all critical consumers of energy. Savvy companies know energy efficiency is good for business – so good, in fact, that their business plan cites energy efficiency as an organizational imperative.
Topping the list of effective energy-efficient initiatives are equipment retrofit and replacement, minimizing process water, new plant design and construction, adopting emerging technologies and management best practices.
Significant electricity savings are easily achieved in this sector with low- to no-cost investments. In fact, improvements in energy efficiency could be realized almost immediately by improving the efficiency of your boilers, repairing any leaks in your compressed air systems, regularly cleaning the condensers in refrigerating plants, repairing steam traps and installing insulation.
