ERIP - Alternative Energy Measures for Agribusiness
Dual and Natural ventilation systems
Providing a healthy and productive environment for livestock is one of a farmer’s main responsibilities. It is also one of the most costly because of rising energy costs. To help Ontario farmers better control their ventilation costs, the OPA is providing incentives to farmers installing dual and natural ventilation systems in existing barns.
With the dual system, exhaust fans are used to modulate exhaust airflow in the cold months only. In the warm months, chimney with sidewall insulated panels or sidewall openings with curtains are used to provide ventilation. In a natural ventilation system, no mechanical ventilation is installed and all ventilation is provided by chimney with sidewall insulated panels or sidewall openings with curtains.
For livestock, the incentives are determined based on barn capacity and livestock type. In the case of greenhouses – flowers-vegetables – the ERIP incentive is based on the size of the production area within the building.
