The Contractual Peak Shedding Program

NEW – Program enhancement, click here to learn about the recent changes.

This DR program comes with specific contractual obligations to reduce the amount of power being used during certain periods of the year. Participants must be available for approximately 1,600 hours per calendar year for possible dispatch.

During specifically scheduled hours on designated business days, program participants make themselves available to respond to possible load reduction notices. For possible load reductions, you could select 100 hours or 200 hours per year – the choice is yours.

In DR3, direct participants and aggregators alike are eligible. Direct participants must have a minimum of 5 MW in DR to be eligible – and for aggregators, a minimum of 25 MW in DR. The program makes payments for availability (capacity) and for load reduction. Failure to comply with contractual requirements could result in offsets against any potential revenue from the program.

DR3 is open to any customer with a peak demand greater than 50KW. Customers capable of providing less than 5MW of demand response in a regional area of Ontario, must contract directly with an Aggregator to participate in DR3. Customers capable of providing greater than 5MW of demand response in a regional area of Ontario, may contract with either an Aggregator or the OPA.
