ERIP - Alternative Energy Measures for Space Cooling

Space cooling is one of the largest commercial electrical end-uses.   Space cooling may represent the single largest electrical end-use for a facility.  Through the ERIP, the OPA is providing incentives for retrofitting buildings with the following space cooling alternative energy measures.

Ground source heat pumps (GSHP)

Ground source heat pumps (also known as geothermal heat pumps) use the Earth to store heat in the summer and to remove heat in the winter.

The OPA is providing an incentive of $250 per ton with a minimum cooling Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 3.5 when a GSHP is installed.

Desiccant dehumidifiers

Desiccant dehumidifiers using non-electric regeneration are effective in removing moisture. Applications for desiccant dehumidifiers include warehouse storage, arenas and grocery stores.

If you are considering using a desiccant dehumidifier, the OPA is providing an incentive of $1.5 per cubic feet per minute (CFM) for installing a high efficiency desiccant dehumidifier.

Chillers

For building owners and operators, chillers represent a large electricity expense.
The OPA is providing an incentive of $250 per ton of chilling capacity for installation of non-electric engine driven or absorption chillers. This incentive may be of particular interest to building owners considering changing fuel for their backup cooling units or diversifying their cooling technologies.
